"Leadership is about liberating people to do what is needed in the best possible way. Leadership is the capacity to move others towards goals shared with you, with a focus and a competency they would not achieve on their own. Leadership is about building and sustaining exceptional relationships.
In order for human beings to be genuine, compassionate leaders, we must model our leadership upon the laws of nature. We must have an awareness of the subtleties and complexities of what it takes to lead ourselves in this life and ultimately others, within the non-judgmental natural world."
Be a part of this two day, one evening session, facilitated by Bruce Wilson, of Wildwhisper Consulting and Guide Services, to further develop, refine and explore, methodologies to elevate your ability to communicate, with clarity and conciseness to your group, how to make no/go decisions, and how to facilitate an exceptional experience for your party, even though you may not be standing on the summit of the mountain.
Bruce Wilson has been working with BCMC for more than 2 years now. He did a Masters Degree Thesis on Adventure Education, based on a model of Experiential Leadership on the Outdoors. He will be incorporating some of the concepts of his thesis in the leadership course. His leadership models are based on people and the environment, and the lessons he has learned from working as a Professional Guide and Outdoor Educator for the past 22 years. He makes his living guiding people in the outdoors and teaching outdoor leadership at Capilano College.
Course content includes:
- 1 evening session - Tuesday, October 26
- 2 days overnight field trip, during which you will be put through a series of practical applications and scenarios to develop and increase your competencies as a leader.
- A Rite in the Rain Log Book
- Handouts
Course Cost: $250 p.p.
Discount for trip leaders! Please note that if you have lead at least 2 club trips in the past 12 months and have another trip on the current (summer 2010) schedule, the cost is only $200. This is one of the ways how BCMC would like to encourage its members to continue to develop their skills.
