Squamish Valley Gas Bar, just past the Mamquam FSR off the Sea to Sky Hwy i
We will meet at 8:00 am at the gas station just across from the Casino on the North side of the Hwy, as you arrive in Squamish. (Close to the Chief ). Participants should drive their own car or carpool with folks who are in their "bubble". From the meet, up we drive up the Squamish FSR and take the first bridge that crosses at Ashlu Creek, from there it is a few km to the pullout for parking for the Sigurd trail, just after crossing Ashlu Creek and starting up the old Ashlu Main. The trail follows an old logging road for a few km and then begins a relentless steep 2000m ascent through forest, up to the alpine and along a broad ridge with fabulous views of the Northern end of the Tantalus range. We will take a small chainsaw and a few pairs of clippers to tune the trail up as we go. I don't anticipate more than a half dozen logs to cut along the way. For a detailed description of the trip please see: https://stevensong.com/coastal-interior-bc/sea-to-sky/sigurd-peak/ . Bring your microspikes or crampons and an ice axe for the final snow slopes to the top. It should be NTD, but you don't want to slip on the snow and go for a ride. If you have a small pair of shears or cutters for snipping the worst of the blueberry out of the way, that would be helpful. This is primarily a hike, but with a little work thrown in. The ascent is the equivalent of two grouse grinds and we will travel at a moderately fast pace.
