Participants should be comfortable with complex and steep terrain; trip is rated 3 inn the Baldwin book. Goal is to attain the 2,561m summit, however if conditions on the final 40 degree bit of the summit block are judged too risky to boot pack up, we’ll ski back from the shoulder just north and above the glacier.
Minimum AST-1. Bring appropriate backcountry Ski gear including avi kit, and be proficient with it.
Plan is for a medium/brisk pace that is sustainable over the course of the day.
Expect ~1,300m elevation gain and ~13k round trip over ~7 hrs.
This is not a guided trip, and so every participant must be able to lead. You don’t have to have skied here before (I have tho), however experience is a must. Please have knowledge of the route (research if unfamiliar), the avy conditions (likely to be ‘low’) and other details so that you can lead. Expect a variety of snow conditions and some modest tree skiing.
An option is to drive up Friday and split a room(s) in Pemberton. Saves 2 hours that morning and increases the safety margin. Cost would be $35-45/person, and should get us home a bit earlier Saturday night too. Can be discussed in the planning forum
Weather is set to be clear Saturday and conditions are looking good. Will assess weather and avy conditions and evaluate Thursday with a forum update.
Medium sized group of six to maintain pace, reduce transition times, and leave room in vehicles.
Pictures attached are from our trip last April, which was several days after some of the debris visible came down
