Mamquam Mountain or other long days
*Rescheduled from previous week due to avy forecast for storm during the weekend
The idea would be to attempt Mamquam Mountain or as close as we can get in one strenuous day. We would drive to Watersprite’s winter lot or as close as we can get to it and start our way up to Darling Lake and up to the Mamquam Icefield. This trip has been done in the past but its very condition dependent road access/creekcrossings/avy so summiting is definitely not a given but should be still a good day of adventuring. Intermediate skiing, good stamina and basic mountaineering would be required.
There are a few trip reports out there of this route, with different success/enjoyment levels for more information. This trip requires some solid avy conditions so although I am setting it up for this weekend if conditions are above moderate will reschedule for the next weekend. We could always go for a long day somewhere else on the Sea to Sky/Coquihalla a bit more sheltered to get to meet each other and do some skiing.
Everyone should do their research on this trip as it is not a very common route and judge their own abilities, if reaching the summit would be a long day, no way around that, around 2.3K of elevation gain and 30+km return. The pace doesn’t need to be blistering fast but definitely we will not have a lot of time for stops.
The forecast shows some weather coming this weekend so we will decide closer if we do it or not, but if not we could do other day objectives on Saturday/Sunday anyway. Other options could be a Zoa-Thar loop in the Coquihalla, messing around far end of Garibaldi Lake or anything else to be discussed.
