In hopes of more stable snow and drier weather, we'll go to the Coquihalla instead. Possibly Bombtram.
We will ascend Rainbow Mt from the SE via the Skywalk South trail.
Map. It is 1602m elevation gain and 11km to the summit.
If conditions are favorable, we can consider descending by skiing from the summit down to Iceberg Lake. This involves skiing down a glacier onto a very steep, cliffy face, and would push the technical difficulty up to 4. If we want to take this option, we should carry crevasse rescue gear. We will discuss in the planning forum.
Alternatively, we can descend back down the ridge, or partially down the ridge and then into 19 mile creek.
Conditions at lower elevations in the forest are likely to be marginal and the skinning and skiing could be challenging.
Gear required: Avalanche gear (transceiver, probe, shovel), AT, tele, or splitboard equipment, headlamp.
Welcome additional gear: GPS, PLB, camera, first aid kit, radios.
