The 2019-2020 BCMC Intro to Backcountry Skiing/Splitboarding course is looking for volunteers to co-lead one or more trip(s). The trips involve taking those new to backcountry skiing and/or splitboarding into the backcountry for a day of fun and learning. This is a great opportunity to share your love of the winter outdoors, inspire a new generation of backcountry users, and make new friends with which to explore the mountains.
THE TRIPS: The trips will take place between the middle of January and the middle of February, 2020. Exact dates will be worked out according to volunteer availability and conditions.
THE PRE-TRIP ORIENTATION: There will be a pre-trip information session for trip participants taking place sometime on a weeknight in the middle of December to the beginning of January (exact date TBD based on venue ability). We are looking for volunteers to demonstrate their equipment to participants, answer questions in an informal setting, and perhaps do a presentation on aspects of trip preparation. Food and drink will be provided.
VOLUNTEER MEETING: There will be a information meeting for volunteers on December 10, 2019 at 6pm at the ANZA Club to go over the finer points and logistics of the course.
VOLUNTEER APPRECIATION EVENT: There will be a volunteer appreciation event once the course is complete to thank volunteers for their hard work and celebrate the success of the course.
Ideal volunteers should have at least one full year of backcountry skiing/splitboarding experience, be at least intermediate skiers/snowboarders (able to get down a blue run in ALL conditions), have AST1, 2, or OPS 1, and be available for at least one full day to lead a trip or facilitate the pre-trip presentation.
For more information, please feel free to contact Phil Alma at phil.alma@gmail.com.
We look forward to hearing from you and working with you on another successful Intro to Backcountry Skiing/Splitboarding course!
