This course is for BCMC members who are skiers and boarders wanting to learn to avoid avalanches, travel safely in the backcountry, and build their arsenal of mountain knowledge. There are no prerequisites for this course, except competency on your skis/snowboard. 

Base course Fee: $205 (Special price for BCMC Members; CWMS Non-BCMC Fee: $275 + GST)

Location: Mount Seymour**

**Note: in the event there is not adequate snow in mountains around Vancouver (most likely Mount Seymour), participants may be required to purchase backcountry access passes for Whistler.

Course Objectives:

The AST-1 Course is delivered over Saturday and Sunday (16 hours total). For more information on the course curriculum, click here.

Notes:

• Cost does not include transportation to/from course areas; lift access fees (if applicable); food; or personal equipment except as noted.
• You must supply your own ski touring, splitboard, or snowshoe setup. If you don't have your own equipment, you can rent from MEC Vancouver or from other local mountain shops. Also BCMC has 2 transceivers and 3 shovels to rent out. Please contact rentals@bcmc.ca for further inquiries.
