I maintain a wildlife monitoring camera for BC Parks and need to take it out for the season before it gets buried in snow. Since this is a volunteer project for BC Parks, all participants need to sign a volunteer services agreement.

The hike is about a 30km roundtrip on a well-groomed trail, and then about 2km of easy off-trail hiking on the ridge-top to reach the (confidential!) camera site. Although the trail is in good condition, this is a long hike with a lot of elevation gain (and loss, and gain).

There will most likely be snow on the trail, so microspikes and gaiters are mandatory.

Here's my plan:

Sunday October 13: Drive from Vancouver/Burnaby to Hope in the afternoon, visit the Othello Tunnels, camp just outside Hope for the night.

Monday October 14: Drive from Hope to Strawberry Flats trailhead, hike to, grab camera, hike back to trailhead, drive back to Vancouver.

I've booked a room with 2 queen beds at the Best Continental Motel in Hope, total cost is $90.85, split equally.  We we will be camping at a spot just outside of Hope, a short distance off the Coquihalla Highway. It's free but there are no washrooms or any other facilities.

If you haven't been on this trail, it takes you from valley bottom to ridge top and offers incredible views in every direction. Well worth the effort! :)
