The timing of this trip is very flexible, and we can choose any 3-4 day window that overlaps with a weekend in the next 2 weeks~
Depending on the ability of participants, we'll drive down perhaps on Thursday (or even Wednesday night), grab permits, and aim for a 2 or 3 day ascent of the Emmons Winthrop. A 2-day ascent would involve an alpine start to base camp, then resting from say 9am until sleep at 3pm, followed by a summit day. A 3-day ascent would be leisurely walk to base camp, then a full rest day, then a summit day.
The route itself is in great condition (see recent updates from the Ranger's blog) and the current weather window seems to be coming to an end.
If we are unable to gain permits, then as a backup plan we can choose perhaps Mt Adams or Mt Jefferson or something closer to home (open to suggestions).
The following is required of all participants:
Gear required:
- Crampons and ice axe
- Rope (1 per team)
- Harness, helmet
- Crevasse rescue equipment
- Overnight camping gear and tent
- Headlamp/torch
- 10 essentials, other gear
Insurance:
STRONGLY CONSIDER trip insurance for the trip. Do you want to get bankrupt because you slipped and hurt your ankle?
Border:
You MUST have a valid passport or other travel document enabling you to cross the US border.
Emergency Info:
Make sure your Emergency contact is up to date. You will need this to attend the trip.
