Trip Description

Route description

This route follows Matt Gunn's description of the route in Scrambles in SW BC.

Essentially, park at Lower Seymour Conservation Reserve, then jump on the bikes and ride down the paved Seymour Valley Trailway to around kilometer 9. At this point we stash the bikes, and head up the spur to the trailhead.

The hike itself is a steep ~850m grunt up through beautiful old-growth forest, to an open sub-summit overlooking Seymour Lake. Reverse the route to get home.

Note: this lookout is also known as Paton's Peak and on Google Maps, Coliseum Mountain Lower East Lookout.

Pace

I'd like to do this route at a medium-fast pace. That means riding the 9km on bike in ~40 mins, and doing the hike itself in well under 2 hours. I was torn between categorizing this as "Hiking" or "Conditioning" . . . for me this is both.

Getting there

Let's meet at the Lower Seymour Conservation Reserve parking lot (at the end of Lillooet Road) at 9am on Saturday morning. I have a car but unfortunately no bike rack, so I can only carry my own bike.

The biking section is all paved; no MTB required. I'm bringing my daily city commuter. I recommend bringing a lock to secure it to a tree when we stash the bikes (though I suspect 9km up the trail is a low-risk area to leave a bike).
