St. Davids Chruch in WVan on Friday April 19 at six am
We will be heading for the Phelix Creek cabin, built by the VOC, near Birken Head Lake, past Pemberton. For details please see the VOC website: https://www.ubc-voc.com/wiki/Brian_Waddington_Hut. This will be a moderately fast paced trip with lots of peaks to climb and hopefully some north facing spring powder. Skiers should be able to handle all snow conditions with an overnight pack on, from mashed potatoes to icy breakable crust in the trees. It may be useful to bring ski crampons for the forest part, and an ice axe for peak bagging. The trip in is about five hours with half on a logging road and half up through steepish second growth forest following a hiking trail. The cabin is not heated, but apparently there is an auxillary propane heater which takes the 16 oz cylinders. There is a $10 per night fee, which I will collect and forward to the VOC. Participants must have probe, shovel and beacon and AST 1 or equivalent experience. The trip is open to both skiers and snow shoers, but snow shoers should be prepared to make their own trail and hike independently from the group.
