Trip Description

The North Shore Amateur Radio Club (NSARC) is offering a basic amateur radio operator course applicable to VHF radio operation in the BC backcountry. Course booking and payment is to be made directly to NSARC by any interested BCMC participants. Discounts are available for full-time students and emergency responders. See the NSARC course webpage for full details.

What: The Basic course will provide the candidate with the requisite knowledge to pass the Basic Licensing exam as prescribed by Innovation, Science and Economic Development (ISED) Canada. The course includes a study guide which has brief theory, procedures and regulations. We are trying a new format for 2019; Four lessons will be presented over four Saturdays.  Lessons cover electrical theory, operating procedures and radio regulations. The last session each day will be an “Afternoon Practicum” offering informal, practical, sessions with hands-on demonstrations and discussions.  On the fifth Saturday, we will provide examiners to administer the exam and handle your licensing applications.

Cost: Cost of course is $130, cash or cheque ONLY, payable beforehand or at registration on the first day. Advanced payment by Interac may be available. Some discounts are  available for Emergency Responders, NSEMO volunteers and students.

Included are PowerPoint lesson slides, textbook, Club membership, coffee and snacks.

Where: North Shore Emergency Management (NSEM) East Door, 147 East 14th Street, North Vancouver, BC, V7L 2N4.

ISED Exam:  25-May-2019, 9.15 am.

Parking: The City of North Vancouver enforces strict rules about street parking; time limits are posted. These vary from 1 to 2 hours. Side street parking can be found about 2-3 blocks away in most directions with unlimited parking time.
