Meet at the Golden Ears Provincial Park, Alouette / Mike Lake trailhead at 8am (Golden Ears park gate opens at 8am). We may meet earlier in Vancouver depending on where people are coming from. We'll snowshoe up to the summit of Alouette mountain, and then spend the afternoon digging snow shelters (ideally snow palaces) just below the summit before turning in for the night with hot chocolate and dinner. On Sunday we'll hike out in the morning.
As a backup (in case the snow is too hard / too soft, too thin, etc) everyone needs to have a tent.
The route up Alouette is largely a gentle angle and there is little chance for avalanches (the last 100m to the summit are probably the only real risk) - but we need to discuss as a group what we're comfortable with and whether everyone is required to have avalanche gear.
Note that Golden Ears Provincial park gates close at 5:30pm and so you are likely to be committed if you are not back at the carpark at 5:30pm if you decide not to stay.
You are welcome to join this trip as a day trip - but preference will be given to overnighters. Please indicate this in your answers.
