Trip Description

The timing of this trip is heavily dependent on conditions and timing of other trips. Consider it plus or minus 2 weeks or so.
[Moved away from Monday 27th as it's a public holiday in the US]

The plan is to travel down and rendezvous there. Preparing for a midnight start and one-day ascent. Depending on the capabilities of the participants, we'll either take the standard South side Hogsback route, or perhaps a slightly harder variation (Old Chute maybe). Due to the danger of this route being increased when crowded at bottlenecks and the increased rockfall risk - we will aim to summit on a Monday.

Ideally we will also have time before to summit Mt St Helens on the Friday beforehand (if we can all get permits), and the trip will be planned with this as Plan A.

Sample ideal itinerary:
Thursday - drive down
Friday - summit Mt St Helens
Saturday - rest day
Sunday - begin climbing Mt Hood before midnight
Monday - come down from Mt Hood

However depending on if folks don't want to take the Friday off, they could travel on the weekend just for Mt Hood. Preference however will be given to folks who can take the Friday off for MSH.

Accommodation is TBD depending on group's preference - either camping or a cheap motel or a mixture thereof.

You must have recent experience in:
- Roped glacier travel
- Crevasse rescue

Gear required:
- Crampons and ice axe
- Rope (may be able to share)
- Harness, helmet
- Crevasse rescue equipment
- Headlamp/torch
- 10 essentials, other gear

Insurance:
STRONGLY CONSIDER trip insurance for the trip. Do you want to get bankrupt because you slipped and hurt your ankle?

Border:
You MUST have a valid passport or other travel document enabling you to cross the US border.
Do NOT use the nexus lane unless everyone has a nexus card. Don't take fruit/vegetables across the border, it's not worth the hassle/risk - you can buy vegetables in the US easily, and no doubt you will enjoy the additional selection of food not available in Canada anyway.

Emergency Info:
Make sure your Emergency contact is up to date. You will need this to attend the trip.
