There And Back Again
Ski Tour to Elfin Lakes ~ 22km
This tour is suitable for new-to-backcountry skiers with good skinning technique. While this trip is fairly straightforward, good skiing ability is always needed in the backcountry to be able to handle poor snow conditions. The elevated avalanche forecast reminds us to understand the terrain that we will be in and to be diligent about following safe travel protocols. Distance is long so a good level of fitness and endurance is required. Moderate pace with re-grouping.
Starting from Diamond Head trailhead. Re-group at Red Heather Shelter (5km), Elfin Lakes Shelter (11km), and again at Red Heather Shelter on the return (16km).
Expect to be back after dark [ headlamp ].
