I would like to spend a day reviewing Avalanche safety - and a Considerable+ day seems a great day to "poke the dragon". I am not an instructor, merely a student of avalanche safety. This is not a course, and by no stretch of the imagination a replacement for an AST course, but a day to apply what was previously learned in an applicable setting. I hope to encourage interaction between like-minded and educated participants in a round table setting. I've never done anything like this before, so I hope it will be an effective experience for us all.
We will spend the day around the Red Heather hut. I'd like to set up a multiple burial scenario, and do a few field tests. Of course, the day may evolve into doing a few turns, but only on super conservative terrain and only if everybody is game.
I am not a very good off piste skier, so this will be a day that a beginner skier will find comfortable.
You should have taken at least AST1, or have a respectable background in avalanche safety.
10 essentials, though this will not be a very long day.
If you have pit digging supplies: all the better.
