Join me for a day to practice navigation skills on a day hike/snowshoe to Garibaldi Lake. We will need to identify our current locations in regards to map and reach predetermined objectives. Five or six coordinates will be chosen and we will have to practice finding them. I will bring treats for those who find the locations first. We will stay together in groups and I will bring a walkie talkie to stay in touch. We can also practice figuring out our directions without using a compass too!
Garibaldi Lake is a very popular trail in all seasons. Round trip it is 18 km and 810 m elevation gain. We will go at the pace of the group. Snowshoes might be needed depending on the weather, I will keep my eye on trail conditions. We will go rain or shine, but I will cancel if stormy weather.
Please bring the ten essentials and car pool if possible. Garibaldi maps are available to purchase in most outdoor stores, but I will be bringing one. Compass with mirrors are the best for accuracy. If people would like, maybe we can stop for food after.
I will meet people at Starbucks off highway 99, near Canadian Tire to help those unfamiliar with the trail head. We will meet at the trail head around 0700 and I will meet people at Starbucks at 0630.
