Trip Description

Preference given to Members who have completed Introduction to Mountaineering sessions (2018).

Maximum number of 12 is required to conform with the limit set by the Mt Baker Wilderness regulations. Rope teams of 3 preferred.

This trip will only go ahead with good weather conditions.

We will be meeting early on Saturday morning. Base camp at the Football Field. Summit attempt in the wee hours on Sunday morning. Retreat to Base camp. Pack up and return by Sunday evening.

You must be experienced in:

   1. Overnight winter camping (on snow)

   2. Roped glacier travel

   3. Crevasse rescue

   4. Sharing chocolate and cheese.

 

Gear required:

Overnight camping gear and tent.

Rope, Harness and gear for glacier travel. 

Consider your own 10 Essentials:
  1. Navigation (map and compass)
  2. Sun protection (sunglasses and sunscreen)
  3. Insulation (extra clothing)
  4. Illumination (headlamp/flashlight)
  5. First-aid supplies
  6. Fire (waterproof matches/lighter/candles)
  7. Repair kit and tools
  8. Nutrition (extra food)
  9. Hydration (extra water)
  10. Emergency shelter

 

Welcome additional gear: GPS with tracks, PLB, Camera, Lithium Batteries AA and AAA, Chocolate, Cheese.

As a new mountaineer and new to trip planning, I will be seeking assistance with organizing details including organizing shared equipment, GPS with tracks; Map and compass; Personal Locator Beacon; Camera; First aid kit.

Recommended carpooling cost:  please arrange with driver; bring funds.

Emergency Info:  please make sure your Emergency Contact info has been added to your web-account profile.  You can do this by logging into the bcmc.ca website, click on: My Account (top of page)... then click on Edit Emergency Contact (top-left column).  Please re-enter your password to complete the process.  Your emergency contact info is stored *privately* and only made available to those organizing trips *you* choose to attend.

Medical Info:  any info that should be shared with the organizer(s), please send an email and/or phone ASAP.  For example, if you are very allergic to bee/wasp bites, or you are taking medication that could be vital information to First Aid Responders.  Anything you choose to share will remain private.

Cancellation:  We'll check the weather forecast for where we're going the evening before we meet.  If the weather forecast does NOT appear to be adequate for a safe outing then the trip will be cancelled and everyone will be notified by email.
