Why go to Quadra island? Quadra is a unique place with a stunning view of Vancouver island, with interesting climbing on andesite rock (very few places in the PNW can you climb on such high quality andesite), and is a fantastic place for beginner leaders as it has an abundance of well-bolted, easier graded sport routes (5.5, 5.6, 5.7) that are not too long, as well as some 2 pitch multipitches. The higher crags have commanding views to Strathcona park mountains and the gulf islands. There are routes to 5.12 for those who climb harder.
If you wish to come and go hiking, sea kayaking or mountain-biking instead - that's fine too! Maybe the climbers will get tired of climbing and want a hiking rest day.
The plan is to leave on Friday after work, and travel via the ferry to Vancouver island, and camp somewhere near Campbell river. On Saturday we'll take the short 20 minute ferry to Quadra, and climb the day. We're booked at the We Wai Kai campsite next to Rebecca Spit for Saturday and Sunday. Sunday is all day climbing. Monday we'll climb a bit (or alternatively head back to Vancouver island early and climb somewhere there, such as Nanaimo crags) before heading home. If you want to leave earlier on Friday and meet on Quadra that's fine.
The trip will be dependent upon a good forecast.
Screening will be used to make sure we have an appropriate ratio of experienced climbers to newer climbers (approximately 1:1).
