Trip Description

Last minute Easter Monday special.

We will attempt to ascend east peak of Frosty Mountain in EC Manning Park via the trail route. We will then drop into the Frosty Creek bowl. Depending on the coverage conditions at the lake found in the morning, and the group consensus we will:

  • continue the descent via the creek (~1200m elevation gain) but potentially challenging conditions
  • or climb back toward the trail and ski out via the trail (~1500m elevation gain).
  • Another alternative is to follow exit established by Paul Kubik via the west peak ridge and descent to Flash Lake (~1800m elevation gain)

Advanced intermediate skiing ability is required. Trip involves moderately steep slopes and tree skiing. If we decide to exit via the creek it can get quite dense. We will aim at steady moderate pace - requiring fair fitness level and ability to sustain the effort throughout a decently long day.

You must be able to independently evaluate avalanche risk.

Standard ski touring and avalanche safety equipment is needed:

  • beacon, probe, shovel
  • headlamp+ spare batteries
  • If you have SPOT, InReach or a PLB - bring it
  • ski crampons may be a good idea for the summit
  • helmet for tree skiing
  • First aid kit - bring yours; we don't need everybody to carry one but we need at least 1-2 depending on the size of the group
  • Food and water for a long day

We meet at 6:15 at Chevron on Boundary and Dominion leaving 6:20. Park on the street.
