Option 1: Gondola base at 9 am Option 2: St Davids at 8 am
I will be leading a second group of participants on the Sky Pilot ski trip scheduled for this weekend (original details below). Registration preference will be given to those who have been wait-listed for the original trip, and those who I have experience skiing with in the past. A decision will be made Friday as to whether the trip will proceed or the objective changed based on snow conditions. Expect conditions that require a hike-in approach and bootpacking above the glacier (snow coverage may be limited in areas.
All participants are expected to have completed an AST-1 course or better, have crevasse rescue training, and are able to ski black diamond runs in marginal conditions with a full pack.
This trip is open for ski touring only (no snowshoes/splitboards). Everyone signing up is expected to have the following personal gear:

This is a lift assisted trip to the Sky Pilot area. The terrain is complex and there are terrain traps. There may also be travel on the Stadium glacier, so rescue skills are required. A person died on this glacier in 2014. There is also the option of skiing down under the gondola, depending on the snow pack. I have made the summit of both Sky and Copilot in the summer. This is my first time to the area in winter. If the weather cooperates this will be a great day.
