Alright, here's one for the midweek mountaineers
I really want to get up to the Tantalus having never been. There looks to be some phenomenal scrambling in the area, and with the late season snow we may find some really exciting conditions. I'd love to have a go at Alpha Mountain, and possibly Serratus, and even Dione if the group is feeling up to it. Ultimately I have a dream of doing a Traverse of the Tantalus and I'd love to get some beta on how stupid and idea that really is.
With current conditions this is going to be a snow climb for the most part perhaps with some scrambling. Experience walking on crampons, using an iceaxe and glacier travel are essential. All team members should be familiar with crevasse rescue. This is a good trip for those who've completed the Intro to Mountaineering Course. All participants are expected to supply their own gear.
If we decide to camp I can provide stove, tent, and a sleeping bag.
If you're new to mountaineering and snow travel and you aren't certain if you can manage this trip please feel free to get in touch with me and we can figure it out.
Trip Overview
July 2nd- Approach Lake Lovely Water.
The first part may be a challenge. I don't have canoe or packraft. At best I may be able to get a hold of a inflatable SUP. Any assistance on this would be swell.
Depending on how long this takes us, and conditions we could ascend up to the location of the previous Red Tit Hut and camp on the Col, or we could take er easy and chill at the luxurious Jim Haberl Hut. This will depend on the group experience, and what goals people have in mind.
July 3rd - Either Mt Alpha, or Peleops/Niobe
Alpine start, climb the snowy slopes, and hopefully get some good snow and ridge scrambling.
July 4th - Mt. Dione, or Serratus
Alpine start. Depending on group ability level we'll attempt another peak via the easiest route. We can expect easy mountaineering conditions if the weather is good.
Following that we'll take down camp and retreat back whence we came.
