Description
Mt. Baker's 3286 meters summit is the highest point in northern Washington and offers commanding views of Vancouver, the San Juans, and the North Cascades.
Ascent Route:
The Coleman Deming is the standard route up Mount Baker. While this is technically a walk up, it does require glacier travel and potential crevasse navigation depending on the time of year. This is a great beginner route for getting into glacier travel and for practice training for bigger trip. Even for the experienced mountaineer one enjoys a fun snow walk up a great Cascade Volcano. Along the way one enjoys great views of the towering Black Buttes which are crumbly towers with hanging glaciers. Climbers often use this as a descent route from the North Ridge, the Coleman Headwall, or the Pencil Thin Roman Mustache. You gain slightly over 2,133 meters of elevation with a distance of about 17 km round trip. Commonly the Coleman Deming is done in two days but can be done in a single day if you get a very early start.
Stats:
• Distance : Round trip from parking lot : 17 km
