We've reserved a permit to climb Mt. Rainier via Emmons Glacier over the Canada Day long weekend, staying overnight at Camp Schurman on Sunday the 2nd and making a summit attempt on Monday the 3rd. While we should be back to the trailhead on the night of the 3rd, I'd advise against making any big plans for Tuesday.

Rainier is a serious mountain, and while the Emmons Glacier is not a particularly technical route, it is not maintained by guiding services.

Schedule:

• Saturday, July 1st: Pick up permits at White River ranger station. Camp at White River trailhead (4200 ft)
• Sunday, July 2nd: Ascent to Camp Schurman (9500 ft) and early bedtime.
• Monday, July 3rd: Alpine start. Attempt on summit (14,410 ft) and descent back to White River trailhead.
• Tuesday, July 4th: Return to Vancouver.

This trip is contingent on good weather and acceptable avalanche risk. We'll evaluate weather in the days prior to departure and adjust plans as necessary.

The following is required of all participants:

• Previous mountaineering experience in an unguided trip
• Training in glacier travel, crevasse rescue, and avalanche skills
• Experience at higher altitudes, ideally above around 10K feet/3K meters elevation
• Appropriate equipment and familiarity with its use, including - but not limited to - a four-season tent (used in winter conditions), as well as a harness, crevasse rescue, and avalanche rescue gear 
• Valid passport and ability to enter America
• A previous trip with the organizer, or with a BCMC member well-known to the organizer

Due to the limitations of our permit, this group is strictly capped in size. However, if you'd be interested in being an alternate in case of illness or injury, please add yourself anyway.
