The snow has finally retreated from the work site on the Watersprite Lake Trail, and the 2017 trail building season is ready to begin!
We are ready to put our plans to prepare the trail for heavy use into place starting with this trip.
On the itinerary are the installation and construction of a major boardwalk structure over a small swampy section on the logging road at the .5KM mark, and the construction of a small bridge over Demon Creek (at the .45 KM mark).
Volunteers will be performing the following task:
-A stop in Squamish to pick up building materials on the way
-Transporting lumber and building supplies from the trucks to the work site.
-Assistance in constructing and installing the boardwalk and bridge
-Incidental clearing of vegetation from the trail.
*NEW* Moving a large Trail Kiosk donated to the BCMC by FLNRO a short distance. A MFLNRO Employee has generously donated his time and is providing assistance with a MFLNRO work truck.
This trip will be the first in a series of major trail upgrades and construction trips dedicated to BCMC maintained Trails. Come join us and help make this worthy project come to life and subdue Demon Creek and the Demon Creek Swamp!
Section 57 authorization has been granted for this project. Maximum participants Unlimited!
I have provided two GPX files for this trip (download them using the links on the bottom left of the page). The first are the driving directions to the trailhead from Squamish, and the second is the GPX file for the trail itself.
As a side note, I am happy to report that the major bridges we installed last year have survived the winter in sporting style.
Silvertip's photo of our bridge installed last year still standing firm in defiance of a swollen Skullhead Creek!
