Trip Description

Ice Climbing on the Seracs near the lower section of the Coleman Glacier on Mt Baker WA

THIS TRIP IS FULL!

The Mount Baker Wilderness Regulations limit our group size to 12.

Join us for our  first  ice climbing adventure of the 2017/2018 season!

We will be crossing the border into the United States so make sure your documents are valid.

Let us know if you want to lead and what extra gear you have...

This is not a course:  assess your experience and skills carefully.

You must have climbing experience, safe belay practices and some experience climbing on ice.

For the approach, we will be crossing the lower section of the glacier to reach the seracs.

The focus will be on top rope climbing.

Leading will be an option for strong, conservative lead climbers only.

Bring your own ten essentials.

Gear required:

Headlamp (fresh batteries!)

Helmet, Harness and Belay Device.

Rigid boots and steel crampons (such as BD Sabertooth or Petzl Lynx.)

>> Not recommended: light mountaineering crampons (such as BD Contacts and Aluminum crampons) and Monos are all Not recommended.

Technical Ice Tools (this would also be a good time to try out your Alpine Axes (such as BD Venoms or Petzl Sum'Tecs.)

Waterproof jacket and pants, gaiters, extra pairs of climbing gloves. Extra warm belay jacket.

We will need enough ropes, ice screws, and climbing gear for the group.

Chocolate and Cheese to share.

Organizer will bring their own 10 Essentials including GPS with tracks; Map and compass; Personal Locator Beacon; Camera; First aid kit.

Organizer will use the Planning Forum for additional information
