Mt Adams (12,276') is the second highest peak in Washington, USA.
I have not been there before, so am going on the information provided in the attached links. I hope to purchase a good topo map at the ranger station.
Itinerary:
July 8th - Drive to Cold Springs Campground at South Climb trail #183. We will be stopping at the Trout Lake Ranger Station to purchase a Northwest Forest Pass and Cascades Volcano Pass. Estimating drive to take about 8 hours and we will camp at the Cold Springs campground.
July 9th - Hike South Climb Trail #183 to the Lunch Counter (9,400') and set up camp. 6km hike with 3800' elevation gain.
July 10th - Get an early start (maybe 4am) to catch sunrise on the summit. Ice-axe, crampons or microspikes required as the snow will freeze. The climb is not technical. 4km and 2900' elevation gain to summit. I will likely be spending the night at Lunch counter. Others may want to hike back to the cars.
July 11th - Hike out and maybe camp at Coldspring.
July 12th - Drive home
I am not a fast hiker and will be going slow and steady with three other lady friends. If you are a slower hiker with good stamina, you are welcome to join our pace.
My son Nik is young, strong and fast and would enjoy a faster group, so faster paced hikers are welcome to forge ahead and keep eye out for each other.
Please use the "Planning Forum" tab for carpooling discussions.
Carpooling groups please arrange pickups individually and we will all meet at Peace Arch Provincial Park parking lot off beach avenue at 7:00am to convoy across border. http://www.env.gov.bc.ca/bcparks/explore/parkpgs/peace_arch/
