Manning Park Ski Tour: Nordheim Peak (2041m) via Mt Kelly. 22km, Elev Gain ~1000m.
Manning Park Ski Tour Dude :)
Are you ready to experience the amazing views in Manning Park?
Mix of sun, cloud and blue skies expected on Sunday.
Rising temps on Sunday will likely make for great skiing back down Mt. Kelly!
We hope you enjoy avoiding trees :) Not too difficult for an advanced skier, but they still jump out at you once in a while :)
Join us on another easy to moderate backcountry ski tour. We will climb up Mt Kelly from Allison Pass, and then tour along the ridge to the Nordheim Peak, taking in the views and dreaming about skiing other areas. This is a great trip for tele-skiers! Bivouac says this about the peak name: "Named after Sondre Nordheim, of Morgedal, Telemark, who in 1850 discovered the first perfect heel strap, cleverly entwined shoots of the birch tree root, with with enough stiffness to provide sufficient control of the ski to steer it and enough elasticity to stay snugly around the heel to keep the toe in the toestrap. In 1866, one year before the confederation of Canada, they demonstrated the "Telemark" turn in Oslo."
The pace will be friendly with re-grouping. Remember to bring a headlamp suitable for skiing in case we return after dark.
This trip is suitable for experienced first season backcountry skiers with an intermediate level of downhill skiing ability. You must be able to ski with an overnight pack, and should have the ability to ski possibly poor snow conditions.
Mandatory equipment: Avi gear: Transceiver, Probe and Shovel. Headlamp suitable for skiing.
