An easy day of touring in the Whistler backcountry. We'll take the lift up and skin over to Oboe. Depending on conditions and preferences, we can ski laps on Oboe and/or Cowboy Ridge, or just tour out to Russet Lake and beyond. The avalanche forecast is currently considerable, so touring on low angle terrain might be the better option.
People new to touring are welcome to join.
I will be in Whistler for a conference that ends at 9am, thus the meeting time and place. However, I encourage everyone else to meet somewhere closer to Vancouver to carpool. We can arrange when and where using the trip planning forum. Try to be at the meeting place ready to go with your lift ticket at 9:05am. Backcountry lift tickets can be purchased inside the gondola base. You must show your beacon, probe, shovel, and maybe skins to purchase a backcountry ticket.
Gear required: Avalanche gear (Transceiver, Probe, Shovel), AT, tele, or splitboard Equipment, Headlamp suitable for skiing.
Welcome additional gear: GPS, PLB, camera, first aid kit.
