8am Mount Seymour trail map near chairlift
Are you looking to brush up your glacier travel skills? Come for a relaxed practice of crevasse rescue skills on Mount Seymour, not too far from the parking lot (exact location TBC). We will practice different types of anchors, pulley systems, exchange gear opinions, and do entire rescue scenarios. The practice shouldn't last more than 6h.
Depending on conditions and the group, we may head up for some turns at the end of the practice. I will be on skis in a ski mountaineering mood. You may be on skis, splitboard, or snowshoes but make sure you are happy to return to the parking lot if you can't, or don't want to join the rest of the group for turns.
Gear required:
- Skis or splitboard or snowshoes plus avy gear if you come for turns later
- Harness
- Helmet
- Carabiners (at least 2 locking, 4 non-locking, plus your belay carabiner)
- Straight ice axe
- Snow picket
- 2 pulleys
- Prussiks (size to be determined once we have ropes agreed)
- Rope (answer in questions; we need one rope for every three participants)
- Single and double length slings
- Headlamp, food, layers etc. Consider your 10 essentials please.
