Looking for a window of good weather for Monday to do the ski traverse from Cypress Bowl to Lions Bay. If the weather forecast for Monday changes by Sunday night, we will do something above Lions Bay as an alternative but maybe not with such an early start. I will confirm the destination and meeting time on Sunday evening. I will also keep an eye on the avalanche forecast. We might still do the traverse with a Considerable forecast but not if there is so much snow that trail breaking slows us down too much.
You need skis, of course, shovel and beacon. In terms of skiing ability, you need to be competent skiing steep trees, big alpine slopes and narrow trails. You also need to be physically fit as it is a long way to Lions Bay with a fair bit of up and down.
The group size of 8 depends on the number of vehicles we get. For example, two vehicles are required for four people. For eight people, four vehicles are required.
Additionally, if the avalanche danger on the descent to Lions Bay is found excessive, we may be forced to exit via the Unnecessary Mountain trail. It is a very steep forested ridge that could be challenging. Please be prepared for this possibility.
