Plan to ski steep lines (40-55 degrees) on Whistler and or Blackcomb and in slack-country (conditions permitting) in a small supportive group to afford adventurous lines in locations where one might otherwise not feel comfortable solo. Meet at Lights Station on top of Whistler 930AM then have a warmup run or 2 together, before venturing to the most appropriate steep terrain given the conditions. Goal is to have fun and push ourselves somewhat, in a supportive safe environment.
There has been a lot of interest for steep skiing and I have kept the group size small to account for the logistics of steep skiing and hazard management. To give everyone interested a chance, for this trip I will create room for 15 people with the intent that we will break into 3 groups of 5, and each group will head off in different directions. To maximize the fun factor, please indicate your steep skiing ability (as per my very imperfect questionnaire) and then I can break the groups so people are with like minded folks.
If there are more than 15 people interested, priority will be given to those on the waiting lists of the other steep skiing days, if they express interest, and those that have not had the chance to participate in a steep ski day.
With the potential for slack-country it will be expected participants have Avy1 as well as all required equipment for backcountry travel (beacon, probe, shovel, headlamp, skins, appropriate bindings, etc). If the conditions are menacing, we can adjust and or cancel the trip closer to the time, but lets hope for a trifecta miracle of blue bird / powder / and high stability :-)
