This traverse will start at the backcountry access gate at the top of the lifts on Blackcomb traversing past Decker, Tremor, MacBeth, Oboe, and Flute, and then exiting via the Whistler downhill area. This trip is a variation of the classic traverse. We will climb Macbeth, then ski down the Curtain glacier into Fitzsimmons creek, and then climb back out via Russet Lake.

We'll be purchasing backcountry lift tickets $61.95 (incl GST) or you can use your Edge card if you have one. They want to see skins, beacon, shovel, probe, and cell phone and you have to sign a disclaimer. The plan is to arrive at guest services by 8AM and catch the first lift at 8:30. With the forecast being clear for Friday there's a good chance that Glacier chair will open before 9:30 hopefully followed closely by the Showcase Tbar. We'll park in lot 4 which is the free lot but involves a bit of a walk to the lifts.

Participants must bring backcountry ski gear, avi gear, and headlamps (w spare batteries). Ski crampons are also a good idea on this type of trip and don't forget sunglasses and sun screen. Less weight equals greater speed so keep your pack as light as possible. There are 22 skin transitions along this route!

It may be rescheduled for Sunday if the forecast for Saturday is poor. That decision will be made early Friday evening. Check back here to confirm.

No one leaves until everyone is out.

Please note: This is a fast paced day trip requiring a high level of fitness and is not suitable as a first trip with the club. You must be able to independently navigate in the mountains. I have posted a GPS track of our planned route.
