This course is for groups of six* BCMC members with backcountry ski touring experience looking to obtain glacier travel and companion rescue skills. Course will be held January 14 and 15, 2016.
*Note 1: if this course is not fully booked, i.e. 6 paid participants then this course may be cancelled and refunds will be provided to those that paid.
Base Course Fee: $230 (Special BCMC Members price, includes GST).
Course Objectives: Canada West Mountain School [CWMS], the leading mountaineering school on the West Coast, is offering to run this course with the first day in Squamish and the second day at TBD. Having the first day in Squamish is considered ideal as this day is mainly spent going over the technical rope rescue systems. CWMS has found that doing this in a snow-free, warmer environment, makes for better learning retention. For day-2 the group will focus on Glacier Travel skills by going to TBD and traveling on the glacier while working on glacier travel skills.
Equipment: this CWMS two day course will include all technical equipment and guiding/instruction services by an ACMG Ski or Mountain Guide. Please note that participants will have to supply their own ski touring equipment, avalanche safety equipment, food and transportation.
