Participants should have some rock climbing experience (indoor or outdoor) and know how to top rope belay. Experience cleaning anchors is recommended. Participants should have their own personal gear (harness, belay device, personal safety sling, helmet, shoes). Some participants need to know how to lead belay (will need at least one person). Bringing your own extra equipment is encouraged (rope, quickdraws, anchor materials) since I only have one rope, so the more people we have the more gear we'll need. We can set up top ropes for those not wanting to lead or have not yet learned.
Sully's Hangout is in the Lower Seymour Conservation Reserve and has about 30 single pitch sport routes ranging from about 5.8 to 5.12-. I'd like to start with some lower grades 5.8-10- and go up from there depending on the group, etc.
The new Vancouver Rock Climbing guide book has Sully's Hangout within it. I will be bringing a copy. There's also a topo online on rockclimbing.com or Mountain Project or similar.
Park gates close at 9pm. We may get out a little later than that depending on the daylight and how late we want to climb. Bring a headlamp just in case. Let's meet at 4:00pm just outside the Lynn Canyon park gate at the intersection of Lynn Valley Road / Rice Lake Road / Evelyn Street. There's a few street parking spots there. The hike to the crag is about 30 mins.
We can organize rides in the forum. I'll be coming from the PNE area if anyone in the area or along the way needs a ride.
Looking forward to it!
