Corey Boux (great skier, op 1, tail guide) and myself are doing the McBride Traverse in 5 days and we would like to have a 3rd person in our party.
If the weather maintains, we will start this coming Thursday and our expected return date is next Monday. A late return is not totally impossible, so plan accordingly (work, extra food, etc).
See Baldwin p 62 for details on the traverse.
We will start from Blackcomb, so a backcountry pass ($56 - unless they are cheaper now that we are at the end of the season?) must be purchased if you don't have a pass, edge card or other access to the lift.
We will organize drop a car at the end of the traverse and start in Blackcomb at 10 am (their current opening time).
****Requirements:
- AST1 or higher
- Crevasse rescue experience, course or practice
- Good level of fitness
- Ability to ski long days for 5 days in a row
****Necessary gear:
- Beacon, shovel, probe
- Spare batteries for beacon and headlamp
- Crevasse rescue gear (harness, prusiks, sling, enough biners or pulleys to build a 3 to 1 hauling system)
- Ice axe
- Ski crampons (might not be necessary, but I highly recommend them)
- Clothes and food for 5 days (bring extra food in case)
- Hat, good sunglasses, sunscreen
- Electrolytes
- Blister kit
- Little first aid kit
- Personal camping gear (headlamp, sleeping bag, therm-a-rest, etc).
If you have spot, this would be really great. Otherwise, we will probably rent at MEC.
We will share stove, pots and tents.
We have map of the area, compass, GPS and a rope (8 mm, 30 m)
****Optional gear (that might be great to have):
- Extra GPS (we will communicate track)
- ice screw
