Yoyos on N and NE aspects of Hollyburn, with potential return over Mt Strachan.
We found some surprisingly good dry cold powder on N aspects today (Thursday). So the N and NE slopes of Hollyburn might be worth having a look at.
Plan is to car-pool to the overflow parking lot, skin straight up to Hollyburn, try the N-NE slopes. If the snow is good, do a few laps. If it is not so great or if it is early enough after that, we could come back over Mt Strachan and ski the NW run. Otherwise, just ski down the way we came.
All in all, it will be a whole afternoon of skiing and it involves some steep-ish climbs and some steep descents with trees. So despite being a Hollyburn trip, it might not be a great beginner trip. If the weather holds, views will be great.
Necessary:
- AST1 or higher
- Shovel, beacon, probe
Would also be great:
- GPS, map
