Feb 9th Social: BCMC Summer Camp Retrospective 1968-1990
The BCMC ‘Summer Camp’ had been an annual highlight dating all the way back to 1910, when the first official BCMC Camp was assembled in Red Heather Meadows (in what would eventually become Garibaldi Provincial Park). The club's Summer Camps provided an opportunity for a larger group of BCMC members to set up a base camp from which they could fully explore and climb in a region while the weather was (hopefully) good. Some camps were very popular among club members... the 1926 camp in Black Tusk Meadows was attended by 102 people over its two week span! Since those nascent days of the B.C. Mountaineering Club, the camps have been held in virtually all the mountainous regions of British Columbia.
Please join long-standing BCMC member Geoffrey Mumford as he presents his stories and photos for the BCMC Summer Camps he participated in, and documented on, between 1968 and 1990. Geoffrey Mumford currently resides in Naniamo and has gladly offered to cross the ocean to join us next Tuesday to share his stories and photos. Please come out, watch the presentation, ask a few questions, and then mingle with club members to find out what others have been doing this winter or hope to do in the spring/summer.
Everyone is welcome [1] ... visitors, members and guests. The meeting will take place at the Vancouver ANZA Club main floor (corner of 8th Ave and Ontario) on Tuesday February 9th, 2016. The entrance door opens shortly after 7pm and the February 9th BCMC Social is scheduled to begin at 7:30pm.
[1] Note: you must be 19+ years old to attend and may be asked to sign-in at the door to ensure we don't exceed 135 people in the hall.
