Hi everyone,
My name is Sharon. I'm a new member to BCMC. I have organized many hikes in the last year and a half through Meetup. Most of these hikes were overnight hikes and snowshoe. Most of them were exploratory and I quite enjoy the challenge, yet maintaining as much safety as possible. I have led hikes to Tenquille Lake, Garibaldi Lake, Cerise Creek, Elfin Lakes, Murrin Park and I have repeated these hikes several times. I'm now looking to explore a new hut to enjoy.
I am a RN by profession. Unfortunately, I do not have my ASTs, although I'm looking into that. I do frequent the Avalanche Canada website, and if the risk is moderate or high, I have cancelled trips in the past. Safety is a number one priority for me. It would be helpful, if we had at least one member who has done this route before and/or has their ASTs. I will have a GPS(with way points downloaded from VOC wiki) and I'll be renting a satellite phone, just in case. If anyone has one of these, let me know :)
Ok:) So, here is the info on the route.
We will be using the Roe Creek FSR. It is apparently longer, but safer. The route is 13km each way with an elevation gain of 1250m. Several websites state that this route takes 7hrs to get to the hut. This hut sleeps 12-20 people, has solar lights and wood stove. It costs $10 per night for maintenance by VOC. There are wonderful views of Black Tusk, Mt Garibaldi and Tricouni. I will be bringing supplies to make smores and maybe some cards to play games (this is what I love to do)!!
We will be meeting at the Starbucks in Squamish at 7am. I want to leave us as much daylight hours as possible. Car pooling will be ideal. Maybe I can figure out how to create a chat for this? I've never used this site before.
