General Plan: mainly due to the distance, this is considered a challenging hike. From the 1446m summit, on a clear day, there will be excellent panoramic views of the surrounding mountains. An estimated 10hrs of hiking will be needed to cover the 24km (round trip) distance and 1245m of elevation gain. We'll attempt to use a reasonable "turn-around" time to reduce our chances of returning in the dark. That said, be prepared to hike the last portion of the return trail in the dark... please bring a good headlamp with fresh batteries. Sunset will be about 6:00pm.
*UPDATE* We'll meet 8:00am at the End of the Line General Store, which is located next to the entrance to the park at 4193 Lynn Valley Road, North Vancouver. The store, which opens at 8am, has coffee and snacks. Please park near the store... somewhere that allows all day Saturday parking. Winifred suggests we park near the store on Dempsey Road, not Lynn Valley Road. Do NOT expect to spend a lot of time at the store... we need to get moving if we're going to summit and return before dark.
In case you're wondering, there is parking inside the park but the roadway gates could be closed by the time we return... locking vehicles inside for the night.
Please bring enough food and fluids for a full day of hiking, and extra layers of clothing to keep dry and warm. Expect the summit to be cold, possibly windy, and the temperature to cool noticeably when the sun begins to set.
