This trail seems to be one of the best ones near Vancouver. It will take between 14 to 16 hours walking over the two days depending on our speed. I DON'T plan to climb/scramble to the West Lions or other summits since it would make this hike even longer, and I prefer to keep these summits for future single day trips. Elevation gain: +1850/-2600. The first day will be the tough one. There are several camping area and we'll certainly stop at Magnesia Meadows. Have a look at http://www.outdoorvancouver.ca/featured-trail-howe-sound-crest-trail/ for further details.
Every participant needs to have good hiking shoes, at least 4 liters of water, a sleeping bag (and a mattress eventually for your comfort), sunscreen, sunglasses, hat, warm clothes for the night, light clothes for the day, a headlamp with battery, some snacks and 2 lunches. I'll bring a two-person tent (so we may need another one), a stove+gas+saucepan for the dinner.
I don't have a car, and If we don't find anyone with a car, we can go to the departure by bus from Downtown: 250, then 256 to the bottom of Cypress Road, and then hitchhike to the top. This means that the day will start early... I am planning to hitchhike on the way back, but once again it will depends how many cars do we have... Whatever happens we'll certainly be back quite late in Vancouver (and tired ;)
Give me a call before Friday afternoon.
Cheers
