Our plan will be to climb at The Commonwealth Wall in Murrin Park, which has several very nice, moderate-level, "trad" routes that take gear reasonably well... excellent for those starting to lead-climb... or relearning their climbing skills... or recovering from an injury... and wish something relatively "easy".
There will be some shade (lots of trees) but the forecast is for HOT weather (33C) so consider bringing your swim-suit in case you want to take a quick dip in Murrin Lake to cool off after climbing.
I expect all participants to bring their personal climbing gear... including: harness, belay device, locking biner, climbing shoes, and helmet (no helmet = no climbing). Highly recommended is a prussic for rappelling, a PAS (personal anchor system) for securing yourself to an anchor, plenty of water... more than you'd usually bring, and energy snacks.
Please note that ropes & anchor material for this event are provided by participants and not by the club. If you have a full strength climbing rope and anchor material, please do bring it.
While the more experienced climbers are usually happy to share their knowledge, this is not a climbing course. Every participant must be able to safely top-rope belay and have prior top roping experience outdoors.
Due to the HOT weather forecast (low 30's), we'll meet early at 7:00 am at St. David's Church parking lot at Hwy 1 and Taylor Way in West Vancouver, to climb when it's cooler. If you need a ride to the church, please post a request in this trip's planning forum. We'll stop climbing about 3pm, take a quick dip in the lake (optional), and aim to arrive back in Vancouver about 5:00 pm.
Emergency contact info: please log in, click on: My Account > Edit Profile Information > Private Info and add it (you'll need to re-enter your password). Your emergency contact info will be stored *privately* and made available to those organizing trips *you* choose to attend.
Cancellation due to weather: - check the weather forecast for where we're going on the morning of the trip (Environment Canada - weatheroffice.gc.ca). If the forecast is 40% PoP or less then we'll go. Anything *above* 40% PoP and the trip is automatically cancelled... *unless* the trip organizer contacts the group to say otherwise.
NOTE: if you've answered the trip screening questions for one of my recent outings then you don't need to re-answer them... unless the answers have changed :-)
