Trip Description

For this trip, if the preceding 2-3 days weather has been dry and sunny then I plan to go to an area with easy-to-moderate well-bolted "Slab" routes called the AMO Wall near Shannon Falls.  This a great place to learn, relearn, and practice climbing techniques for granite "Slab" routes.  There should be opportunities for both leading and top-roping... depending skill levels.  All participants must bring their personal climbing gear... including: harness, belay device, locking biner, climbing shoes, and helmet ("no helmet, no climbing").  Also highly recommended is a prussic for rappelling, a PAS (personal anchor system) for securing yourself, plenty of water and energy snacks.  Also note that climbing ropes & anchor material for this event are provided by participants and not by the club. If you have a full strength climbing rope and anchor material, please do bring it.

Please note, to participate in this trip you must already be able to safely belay and must already have top roping experience, either indoors or outdoors.  New climbers are encouraged to take an Introduction To Climbing course from a qualified instructor before joining any of my trips.

While I am happy to share some simple techniques for climbing bolted granite-slab routes, this trip is not intended as an instructor-lead climbing course for newer climbers.  For those you who have done some leading (indoors or outdoors) and are interested in learning to lead on bolted slab routes, we can setup a mock lead situation.

We'll meet at 9:00 am at St. David's Church parking lot at Hwy 1 and Taylor Way, West Vancouver. If you need a ride to the church, please post a request in this trip's planning forum.  We'll aim to arrive back in Vancouver about 6:00 pm.

EMERGENCY CONTACT: please make sure your Emergency Contact info has been added to your web-account profile.  You can do this by logging into the bcmc.ca website, then click on: My Account > Edit Profile Information > Private Info and add your Emergency Name and Phone Number info.  Please reenter your password to complete the process.  Your emergency contact info is stored *privately* and only made available to those organizing trips *you* choose to attend.

MEDICAL ISSUES: if there are any current medical issues that should be shared with the Trip Organizer(s), please send me an email message and/or phone me ASAP to let me know.  For example, if you are very allergic to bee/wasp bites, or you are taking medication that could be vital information to First Aid Responders.  Anything you choose to share with me will remain private.

Cancellation due to weather: - check the weather forecast for where we're going on the morning of the trip (Environment Canada - weatheroffice.gc.ca). If the forecast is 40% PoP or less then we'll go. Anything *above* 40% PoP and the trip is automatically cancelled... *unless* the trip organizer contacts the group to say otherwise.

NOTE: if you've answered the trip screening questions for one of my recent outings then you don't need to re-answer them... unless the answers have changed :-)
