Trip Description

I'm reposting this trip.... Conditions might be different...hopefully we will have snow!!!!

....

Hey everyone!! I’ve posted the trip as a mountaineering trip because although it is mostly straight forward snow walking there most likely be some challenging parts near the top.

-The trail is approximately 16km one way with an elevation gain of 2300meterish. In the summer with no snow it takes about 11 hours to reach the summit, but in the winter it can vary dramatically due to snow conditions.

We will start from Lynn valley Headwaters and follow the “Headwaters Trail” to “Coliseum Mountain Route.

The Headwaters trail (first 5.5Km) is fairly flat, where the Coliseum trail is a fairly steep ascent with a potential small creek crossing.

Once we reach Coliseum it should be about one hour to Burwell.

Here we will decide if we have enough daylight and energy to reach the campground #2 on Cathedral or set camp on Burwell.

The pass between Burwell and Cathedral takes about 2 hours to clear and camping anywhere on it may expose us to potential avalanches hazards.

In the morning if we are not all frozen we will than head to Cathedral summit!!...

There is no trail on Cathedral so once we pass Burwell we will have to negotiate our own trail.

The pass and the first part of the “climb” are pretty easy but route-finding and steepness will get more interesting as we go up…

Trip reports on the Internet are talking about a narrow ridge section before gaining the summit…

Continuing to the summit will be an equal decision of all members and if somebody is not keen on it we should all come back or split in two parties.

No one should be left alone summiting or retreating to camp.

After that we will decide if we can make it all the way home or we have to spend one more night!

Here is some pisc of the mountain.

I am going to bring snowshoes but I’ll leave them behind somewhere on the trail if I don’t need them.

Make sure you’ll have warm feet, hands and head for the snow.

Make sure you’re bringing only minimum gear; the hike is long and the more energy we have the safer we will be.

Consider a 2.5 days worth of food. We wont be cooking for lunch so plan something ready to go kind of thing… Like a watermelon or something… ; )

Trip wont happen if avi danger is high or more. (I doubt ; ) Or weather is bad.

Here is my gear-list if you guys want to take a pick.
