**UPDATE: I've asked Matt to co-organize with me so we can take some more people on this trip. If there is a big difference in people's speeds, then we can more easily split in to two groups this way. We will still aim to have one big group if practical""
This trip will generally follow the description as in John Baldwin's book Exploring the Coast Mountains in Skis (page 130). The plan is to drive up early Saturday morning, skin to camp (exact location TBD), and then get a few turns in if time permits. Sunday we'll see if we can find some good runs off the north side of Rohr, and be back to the car before dark to drive home.
NOTE: I'm a very new skier. I can probably count on both hands the number of backcountry ski trips I've been on, so I'll be taking it really easy if/when the terrain gets steep! But don't worry, I'm not a total newb - I have much more experience mountaineering and snowshoeing! Just learning this whole turning thing with planks strapped to my feet (*mumbles under breath about whoever's crazy idea it was in the first place...*)
For this trip, you don't have to be a crazy good skier (I certainly won't be), but I do expect that you have avvy gear (shovel, probe, beacon) and confidence in your ability to use it. (PS, see previous weekend for "skills practice and knowledge sharing" trip of mine if you want to brush up on skills beforehand)
This trip will only go if the weather and avalanche conditions look decent (i.e. that they won't compromise safety and having a good time). I'm open to moving this trip to a different location if either weather or avalanche are better elsewhere.
Please fill in your info in this spreadsheet at your earliest convenience. It's just for organizing rides and group gear. https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1T40Gy4h8oeG08a6zj31XfkROcL2HNrv8ikBiRarv-HE/edit?usp=sharing
