IMPORTANT NOTE: this is a joint ACC and BCMC multi-day backcountry ski trip. The organizer first posted on the ACC Vancouver site and then followed up on the BCMC site. Please note, everyone registering will be pre-screened by the organizer to ensure all members of the group have a reasonable skill level and background.
Itinerary:
A week of catered, unguided skiing from Mistaya Lodge at 6700' in the Rockies west of the Peyto Glacier, a 20 minute helicopter ride from Golden. Great skiing above treeline right up to the great divide with tree skiing near the lodge. Last year we had daily fresh powder the first week of April. Possible option to exit via Wapta Icefield at end of the week. Friendly staff on site for meals and lodge operations. Lodge has private rooms (2 to a room), reading area, sauna, hot shower, indoor washrooms & toilets, power to charge electronics & limited wireless internet.
Required Items to Bring:
AT skis 100mm width at foot, or snowboard or telemark skis if proficient. Digital transceiver and avalanche safety training and skill. Probes, shovel, compass, GPS. Contact organizer for complete equipment list.
Recommended Items to Bring:
GMRS two way radio, Spot messenger. Also travel insurance if not covered.
How to Get There:
Drive to Golden on 21st. Meet at the Alpine Helicopter Hangar at 8:45 am Mountain time (i.e. Alberta Time) on the day of departure. The Alpine Helicopters hangar is located on Fisher Road at the Golden Airport. It is the LAST hangar on the left.
Cost & Payment:
$1740 + taxes = total $1900. Includes helicopter flights, lodge room, bedding & towel, meals & snacks and limited internet access. Not included: alcohol, tips, costs in Golden. Contact the organizer for details on when, where, who and how much to pay as a deposit.
Cancellation/Partial Attendance:
If you cancel your registration and there is no one on the waiting list then you'll need to find someone to replace you. Registration is not complete until you've signed up *AND* sent a deposit to the trip organizer.
