Winter solstice overnight trip to Mt Baker. Nothing like backcountry skiing on the shortest day of the year.
The plan:
Leave early Saturday. Hike/skin to the base of Heliotrope. Set up camp. Take a couple laps...maybe take a lap above camp by headlamp.
Sunday we rise with before the sun for yo-yo runs along Heliotrope ridge. Moderate treeline terrain. Pack up camp, and back to the vehicles by dark for the drive home.
Avalanche safety equipment and AST-1 (or equivalent) required. Intermediate skiers or better (you can ski an easier black run).
Pack winter camping gear and food for yourself. Number of stoves/tents will be arranged by email two days before leaving.
Headlamp with extra batteries required. Bringing a good book is highly recommended. It's going to be a long solstice night!
