Ski touring in the Mt Baker Wilderness

The forecast is promising for this weekend so I'd like to try to find skiable snow up on Winchester Mountain in the Twin Lakes area of the Mt Baker Wilderness.

I was up there two weeks ago and I feel it's a good foot of snowfall away from being good skiing.  If we decide that it's not ready to ski yet, we will change the location to skyline divide or heliotrope ridge.

Note that this is still early season conditions and the snow conditions likely won't be fantastic so bring gear and expectations to suit early season conditions.

- Goat Mountain.  see route 3 in the Burgdorfer guide 

- Skyline divide & Heliotrope Ridge. See page 176 of the Baldwin guide

All routes require similar levels of exertion and the trailheads are accessed from Glacier off the Mt Baker Hwy.

ALL participants MUST have the following equipment:

Beacon, Probe & Shovel

AST-1 or higher training

AT/telemark ski or splitboard setup (including skins)

Headlamp

Appropriate clothing for being out in the elements all day

Enough food and water to remain on the move for most of the day

(trip organizer will carry the following items: first aid kit, GPS/Compass/Map)

This will involve a long day, with the potential for some objective dangers. Trip will only "go" with a decent weather forecast.

Please consider NOT seeking to jhis trip unless you have conducted your own research into the route, and compared that with your own experience, fitness level and skill.
