Trip Description

This trip will hit up to ten cascade volcanoes in two weeks:

Mount Whitney (14,495’) – Mountaineer’s Route
My plan is to start this one on my bike from Death Valley (-268’) on Mar 26 and cycle to the base prior to climbing (~140 mi). This peak is totally optional, as is the cycling portion. If you’d like to just meet up with us for Lassen Peak onwards, it cuts out quite a bit of driving.

Lassen Peak (10,457’) – Lassen Peak Trail
Basically a walk-up. I expect we might want to bring snowshoes.

Mount Shasta (14,162’) – Avalanche Gulch
This one is a classic! There are a few variations from the same “base camp” that we can opt for if this route gets busy.

Mount McLoughlin (9,495’) – McLoughlin Trail
Basically a walk-up. I’m not super stoked on this peak, but it’s on the way and would be an easy one to bag if we want to.

Mount Thielsen (9,182’) – West Ridge
This one looks a little sketchy, to be honest. We’ll only hit it if conditions are ideal.

Mount Bachelor (9,065’) – Bachelor Trail
Another walk-up. Similar to McLoughlin, we could bag this one on the way by.

Broken Top (9,175’) – Nine o’Clock Couloir OR Northwest Ridge
Another sketchy-looking one. Need to do more research here.

South Sister (10,358’) – Old Crater Route OR Prouty Glacier
This peak looks like a lot of fun! It’s the tallest of the three sisters and a few of the routes look do-able. Maybe we’ll make a group decision on which route to take.

Middle Sister (10,047’) – North Ridge
Another good looking route. I figure we’ll hit the North Ridge which goes through the Middle Sister-North Sister col, giving us the option to hit the North Sister before or after.

North Sister (10,085’) – South Ridge
This mountain is not really recommended by any guide book or website I’ve seen. We’ll have a look from the Middle Sister-North Sister col and decide whether we want to hit it.

I respect that this is a bit of a lofty goal to hit all ten peaks, but if weather and conditions permit, we’ll give it a shot. I figure we’ll pick a start date, then just move from peak to peak as we see fit.

Prior to signing up, please consider carefully if you're willing and able to make it for the entire 14 day schedule. I'd really like to have a solid team with no last-minute flakes, because organizing rope teams and group gear will be critical to the success of this trip.
