Trip Description

Victoria Peak: 3'rd highest peak on the island and considered an island qualifier.

The plan is to use most of Saturday to drive to the trail head from Victoria and set up camp. We'll access the mountain via logging road W-79, about an hour outside of Gold River. The logging road allows us to drive to around 1200 m and yields a decent car camping spot at its end. As is typical on the island, the logging road is decommissioned and thus requires a high clearance 4WD.

Sunday will see an early morning start where we'll climb and access the south spur of the mountain, following it until we reach an acceptable way down to the snowfield below the south face. We'll downclimb or rappel off the spur to reach the snowfield. We'll then traverse the snowfield to reach the base of a ramp system that leads for to the right on the face. From there, we'll continue up the ledges until a route back left is possible on easier ground. We'll traverse back up across the face, accessing the summit ridge and eventually the main summit. We'll get off the mountain by reversing the ascent. We'll then drive home Sunday afternoon/evening.

Difficulties are mostly exposed scrambling and two pitches of low 5'th class, depending on route conditions.

Organizer will be driving a 4WD vehicle that has room for 3 or 4 and will supply GPS, and topo.
